Cranberry STEM Challenge

THE CRANBERRY CHALLENGE.

Build a structure out of cranberries and toothpicks that:

* can STAND UP ON IT'S OWN
* is more than 7 cubes tall
* equal or less than 10 cubes tall

Many children continued on to see how tall they could build a structure that would stand on it's own.

More cranberry fun...

Let's find out.  Do cranberries sink or float?

Cranberry taste test.

Tasting and recording results.

"Friendsgiving" in Room 218

In our classroom we defined "THANKFUL" as:
* a feeling of HAPPINESS
* feeling LUCKY for the things you have

It all started with a version of STONE SOUP (with several others to follow)

We cut and chopped all of the shared ingredients to make our version of STONE SOUP. (Friendship soup)

Our lunch together in the classroom to celebrate thankfulness for friends.

On the menu:  Tomato soup (homemade), grilled cheese, fresh cut veggies, cider, milk, and homemade cookies.

FRIENDSHIP ROCKS
Each child in class painted a beach rock for another classmate and wrote them a note to say "THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND".

Silly Turkey Pics...

As a class we are thankful for many things.  Here is our class e-book, illustrating all we give thanks for.

Boat Building Challenge

Each pair of partners were given 10 straws, a piece of foil and a roll of masking tape.   They only directions they were given were:
* talk with your partner to make a plan
* try out all your ideas
* use only the materials given to you- we will not be giving any more( including scissors)

 Love the teamwork ...

"Let's draw a plan"

"We should cut it in 1/2 so we can both keep the parts we built"

"Let's fold it a little, like a taco."

Testing our boats

The pennies were added one at a time to see how many "people" the boats could hold before taking on water.
