Word Work in Room 218

There are so many ways to practice reading and decoding words in our kindergarten class.

We work on building and reading CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant), developing a foundation of sight words (we call them popcorn words), and building simple sentences with sight words and pictures.

During our group meeting times we use our morning message to search for "Popcorn words" or other words we know.

Here are a few photos of the variety of ways we explore words in the classroom.

Sounds you hear in CVC words.

Pick a letter- Illustrate and label words that start with it

Pick a snowball.  Write the CVC word.  If you can, use the word in a sentence.

Mixed up sentences.  Putting the words in order to make a sentence that makes sense.
